Condemning the attack on Hindu homes in Gangachara, demanding the arrest of those involved

The Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (BSD), Mahila Parishad and Udichi Shilpi Gosthi have expressed concern and condemnation over the attack, vandalism and looting of 14 Hindu homes in Gangachara, Rangpur on charges of insulting the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). In three separate statements on Monday, they expressed concern and condemnation over the incident.

The BSD has issued a statement expressing deep concern, condemnation and protest over the vandalism of Hindu homes in Betgari Union of Gangachara Upazila in two phases. The party’s statement said that the planned attack based on a 17-year-old teenager’s Facebook post has revealed the deterioration of the law and order situation and the insecurity of the minority community. The BSD has commented that creating tension even after the police arrested the teenager is a deliberate communal madness. The BSD statement demanded that those responsible for the incident be brought to justice, security be provided to the affected families and appropriate compensation be paid.

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad President Fawzia Moslem and General Secretary Maleka Banu have expressed concern and apprehension over the attack on Hindu homes in Gangachara on the pretext of insulting religion. The Mahila Parishad said in the statement that extremist communal groups are making deliberate and intentional attempts to create communal violence and anarchy in different parts of the country.

Referring to the recent incidents of public beating of a father and son on the pretext of insulting religion in Lalmonirhat and the demolition of a temple with a bulldozer in Khilkhet in the capital, the Mahila Parishad said in the statement that these misdeeds are obstacles to establishing communal harmony and rule of law in the country. In addition, the lack of implementation of the law in such incidents is creating opportunities for hatred, malice and division in the public mind.

Demanding an impartial investigation into all incidents of creating communal discord, the Mahila Parishad said that the culprits in these incidents must be identified, arrested quickly and demanded appropriate punishment. Because, such incidents are happening in the society often because there is no justice or punishment. The Mahila Parishad has also demanded from the government to ensure the safety and human rights of people of all religions, castes and communities.

Bangladesh Udichi Shilpi Gosthi has condemned and protested the vandalism, looting and beating of Hindu community houses in Gangachara on charges of insulting religion. Udichi Vice President Mahmud Selim and General Secretary Amit Ranjan Dey have demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in the attack in a statement.
